Shri Madhukarrao Bapurao Patil Khatgaonkar College, Shankarnagar is a rural area college established in 1991. The main objective of the institution is to provide quality education to the economically and educationally backwards sections of society. The college has got 2(f) UGC recognition in the year 2003 & 12-B in 2004. The college faculty is a learned one as 25 teachers are Ph. D. degree holders and most of them are engaged in post-doctoral research activities. Fourteen teachers are research guides, 50 students are awarded Ph. D. under their guidance. There are eight faculty members with M. Phil. including three faculty members are SET/NET qualified. Five of the staff members are working as BOS members. The college is advancing in a proper way to maintain a good academic standard of the students. Furthermore, the college continually engages the faculty to initiate various initiatives to fulfil institutional social responsibility. The Institution has organized four university-level workshops on a new curriculum of the University to enhance the quality enhancement process. The institution has also organized a National Conference in Public Administration.

The vision of the institution is to create a self-reliant, self-confident and vibrant human resource for better tomorrow. This vision equips the staff to create a healthy academic atmosphere for the overall personality development of the students. The institution is keen to see that the students studying in the institution have sufficient facilities to learn, read and play. So the priority is to build sufficient infrastructures like well-equipped ICT classrooms, Computer Centre, playground, spacious library and well-equipped laboratories, separate hostel for boys, college canteen, proper sanitation and drinking water facility.
The institution was accredited in 2004 and secured C++ grade. Since then the institution endeavoured at its best to enhance the quality mechanism in curricular and co-curricular activities for nearly ten years. During NAAC cycle-2, the institution has gone through ISO certification to implement quality enhancement measures properly. As a result of the constant persuasion of the quality enhancement measures, the institution secured B grade with 2.31 CGPA in NAAC cycle-2. Now the institution is in its NAAC cycle-3 phase and requires proper infrastructure to implement quality measures to provide a solid platform for the overall personality development of the students. There are CCTV cameras and many more. Still, the institution requires some more infrastructural developments to remain in tune with the ever-changing global scenario
In our college, innovative teaching methodologies are practised at every stage to make teaching-learning process student-centric. A variety of committees have been formed taking into cognizance the requirements of the students and the society around. Committees like Women Empowerment and Harassment prevention cell, NSS, NRC, Library, Sports committee, Cultural committee, Competitive Examination Cell and Students welfare committee have been functioning actively for the all-round personality development of the students. The alumni of the institution have been instrumental in launching various programmes on the campus. All these cells are community-oriented and provide opportunities for students to serve society at large.
Another important initiative of the institution is to set up e-library with Inflibnet facilities so that both students and teachers are provided with e-books and e-journals. The library requires an increase in the number of journals and subscription of reputed journals. The institution has plans to create functional subject-wise forums in each of its departments, wherein every department is asked to conduct outreach programs like group discussions, seminars, tours, extension activities at all levels and uses the resources of both students and its faculty to benefit society at large.
The students act as resource persons in their respective villages in implementing various society oriented activities like Health Camps, Blind Faith Eradication, and Plantation. The students of the college voluntarily engage themselves in spreading proper messages in their respective surroundings. This always makes them aware of their social responsibility. Since the learning outcome/ success ratio of the students is average, the institution has plans to improve their examination results through Remedial classes. The institution conducts coaching classes for competitive exams to increase their employability. The institution still further intends to assist the students through the provision of certificate courses in Computer Applications, Secretarial practises; Nursing and Communication competence. It will help the institution to provide a solid foundation for the employability of the students.
The institution also has plans to impart computer skills to its faculty, administrative staff and students and make them techno-savvy so that they can learn more and they can be reachable. The goal is to see that the entire teaching faculty must fully engage itself in the post-doctoral research output and undertake various research-oriented activities to have better research output. Another goal is to make research output society oriented, to fulfil Institutional Social Responsibility.
