About the Seminar
There has been a long-standing debate over the problems, prospects and vision before India as a nation especially in the context of its democratic set-up. Questions have been asked as to how democracy has shaped the design, destiny and direction of our country so far and how it is going to determine the face and fate of India in the 21st century. In view of the broad scope and huge significance attached to it, this subject demands a greater debate in contemporary India. It requires deep thinking on the part of the scholars to introspect, reflect and share views to each other on one or the other platform. There is a need to have debate over various issues like civil society, issues related to women, dalits, tribals and minorities. The outcome of the debate requires to be communicated to the society; thereby efforts must be taken to uphold the standard of their living. The various policies for the overall development framed by the government for the welfare of such people needs to be communicated to the society around. So that it will create a solid platform for these sections of the society. The scholarly discussion on all these and numbers of other issues has vital significance in the present day scenario. The main purpose of this institution is to provide solid platform for the students who are from the economically backward sections of the society. The organizers believe that such scholarly discussions will make students conscious about the role they have to play in the society. This two-day national seminar having the theme Democracy in the 21st Century India: Challenges and Ways Forward under the aegis of ICSSR will try to decode and correlate the various aspects of this broad theme to draw a complete picture of this subject as well as help evolve a better understanding about it.
